Lance Cpl. Matthew A. SnyderMatthew Snyder, of Finksburg, Maryland, died from a non combat-related vehicle accident in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to Combat Service Support Group-1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California. Died on March 3, 2006. Matthew was 20 years old.Matthew graduated from Westminster High School in 2003. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marines on October 14, 2003, and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. In August of 2004, Matthew was assigned to Combat Logistics Batallion-7, Twentynine Palms, Calif. as a generator mechanic. |

In the wake of SCOTUS' decision, Al Snyder has to pay the defendants costs and fees which may easily amount to over $120K. He needs your help because this fight is not yet over. Al's lawyer, Sean Summers of the law firm Barley Snyder and their team continues to work pro bono (free), as are many friends and supporters, to ensure that families of our deceased war heroes can grieve in peace after suffering such a tragic and personal loss. All funds donated will go to cover the costs associated with this case and to support other legal efforts to curtail protests at military funerals. Not one dime will go to attorneys' fees or to Al Snyder and/or his family. The family, lawyers and law firm have invested thousands of hours of pro bono time on this case and cause and remain committed to doing so. Your money will be put to good use. We will to pay what is required under the law and to support other related legal efforts. In the event that excess funds are received, it will be donated to support veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan in the form of educational or healthcare assistance.

*This is a private civil lawsuit that is separate from any actions being pursued by states or the federal government against Mr. Phelps. While those cases involve Government action and potential 1st Amendment issues, this case is distinct. This case simply alleges that one does not have the right to conspire to use lies in order to inflict intentional harm upon persons who are grieving the death of their children.
